Cold brew

Even as summer comes to a close, we are still brewing up iced coffee in our house. We started cold brewing our coffee a few years ago. It has a lower acidity and feels a bit easier on the stomach. With all the coffee bean roasting that has been going on here and the last few days still in the high 80's, we have been right into it!

If you want to give it a try, start the night before by grinding your coffee beans and loading them into a french press with some cold water. We do about 4 ounces of coffee grounds, but depends on how strong you like it. Stir them up and pop the cap on.





Stick it in the fridge overnight. The next morning, press down your coffee grounds and pour your cold brew over some ice. Simple as that!



You can stir in your cream or sugar, if you like that sort of thing. Simple syrup works great too. No wasted time or money in the Starbucks drive-through. We used to make this by the gallon glass-jug. We would stir in the coffee grounds the night before, then strain them out with a coffee filter. It worked great if you are looking for quantity.

Don't forget to compost your coffee grounds! The chickens seem to love them.
